Warming your drum
If you are working with a synthetic drum head, this lesson doesn’t apply - synthetic drums are not affected by temperature or humidity and are ready to play at any time.
Hide drums are different. A hide drum is made from animal skin, and like all natural materials it responds to its environment. Temperature and humidity affect the tension of the hide - and therefore the sound and feel of your drum.

Tuning in before you play
There is a difference between picking up a drum and beginning to play, and actually arriving at the drum before you begin.
This lesson is about that arrival. It takes only a few minutes and it changes everything about what follows.
