A one-of-a-kind jawbone rattle, handmade in Coomba Park on the NSW Mid North Coast.
The head is formed from natural deer hide, hand-stitched and secured to a beautifully curved deer jawbone.
The jawbone retains almost all of its original teeth, with just one missing. It also carries natural weathering and some damage at it’s ends, all part of the history and character of this piece.
Rather than reshaping or disguising this bone, I’ve worked with it’s existing form, allowing that beautiful curve and the contrast between hide and bone to become part of the finished piece.
She is as much a sculptural piece as she is a handmade instrument, with a character entirely her own.
