Drum Doula Training

$1,111.00

Holding the making. Reading the process. Serving the drum.

This training is for those who feel called not just to make drums — but to hold space for others as they do.

The role of Drum Doula is not about authority, teaching from above, or rushing people toward an outcome. It is about attunement, discernment, practical skill, and deep respect for the process.

This training offers a grounded, experience-based pathway into supporting others through drum-making journeys with care, steadiness, and integrity.

What It Means to Be a Drum Doula

A Drum Doula listens — to the maker, the hide, the tension, the rhythm of the room.

This role sits alongside the making, not on top of it. It requires patience, clarity, technical understanding, and the ability to know when to guide, when to intervene, and when to step back.

As a Drum Doula, you are learning to:

  • Hold safe, respectful space for the drum-making process

  • Support makers emotionally and energetically when things arise

  • Read the hide, lacing, tension, and timing

  • Assist without overriding the maker’s own relationship with their drum

  • Honour the animal, materials, and lineage of the craft

This training is about responsibility as much as skill.

What This Training Covers

The Drum Doula training weaves together practical knowledge and subtle awareness.

You’ll be guided through:

  • The anatomy of frame drums and common making processes

  • Reading hide behaviour, moisture, tension, and readiness

  • Lacing patterns, troubleshooting, and practical problem-solving

  • Supporting others through moments of frustration, emotion, or uncertainty

  • Holding group and one-on-one drum-making spaces safely and clearly

  • Ethical considerations around materials, sourcing, and teaching

  • Knowing your scope — and when to refer or pause

This is not a formula or script. It’s an embodied understanding built through presence, observation, and experience.

Who This Training Is For

This training is suited to those who:

  • Already have experience making drums

  • Feel drawn to supporting others rather than leading from the front

  • Value slow, respectful processes

  • Are willing to hold responsibility — not just technique

  • Want to facilitate drum-making sessions with integrity and care

It is not a fast-track certification or a business-in-a-box. It is a mentorship-style offering rooted in lived practice.

How the Training Is Held

Drum Doula training is offered in:

  • Small, intimate groups, or

  • One-on-one mentorship format

Group sizes are kept intentionally small to allow:

  • Close guidance

  • Real conversation

  • Observation and feedback

  • Space for questions and reflection

This training is held in person where possible, within my studio space and surroundings on the Mid North Coast, NSW.

Lineage, Respect & Scope

This training honours:

  • The animals whose hides are used

  • The land the materials come from

  • The long lineage of hand-made frame drums

Graduating from this training does not mean doing things “my way.” It means carrying forward an ethic of care, responsibility, and listening into your own work.

You are encouraged to develop your own voice — held within clear boundaries and respect for the craft.

Practical Details

  • Format: Small group or 1:1

  • Prerequisites: Prior drum-making experience required

  • Investment: Shared on enquiry

  • Location: Coomba Park, NSW

Spaces are limited and offered by application or conversation.

If You Feel the Call to Hold Space

This training isn’t for everyone — and that’s intentional.

If you feel drawn to the quiet role of supporter, witness, and guide, you’re welcome to reach out for a conversation.

We’ll explore whether this path feels aligned — for you, for the work, and for those you may one day hold space for.
